New European LED lighting regulations (2025)
In line with Europe’s Green Deal and sustainability commitments, new regulations concerning lighting and ecodesign entered into force in 2025. These policies affect manufacturers, resellers, and users across the entertainment and architectural sectors.

SLR (Single Lighting Regulation – EU 2019/2020)
Introduces stricter eco-design requirements, pushing for improved energy efficiency and better durability across all lighting products. -
ELR (Energy Labelling Regulation – EU 2019/2015)
Replaces the old A++ to E scale with a simplified A to G rating, designed to help professionals and consumers make more sustainable choices. -
RoHS Directive Updates
The restriction of hazardous substances now bans or limits materials such as mercury, impacting many older lamp technologies still in circulation. -
Phase-Out of Legacy Technologies
The market placement of fluorescent lamps and halogen capsules has been officially banned with exceptions expiring by 2025. This accelerates the shift to LED-based technologies. -
Light Pollution Reduction
Municipal and public lighting installations must now comply with environmental constraints limiting upward light emission. Fixtures like globe lamps that emit more than 50% of light skyward are no longer permitted in public spaces.
